| Stochastic simulation was used to analyze revenues and costs for a small-scale catfish processing plant under various combinations of operating capacity utilization and price paid for live fish. The probability for a positive level of daily net income ranged from 11 to 100 percent depending on the price paid for live fish and level of operating capacity utilized. Daily average total cost per pound of live fish processed changed by 2.10 percent given a 10 percent change in live fish processed. Short-term cyclical patterns in revenues and costs suggest a need for financial planning to provide for possible year-end revenue shortfalls. |

| As small finns grow from employing just a few people to employing 10 or more, there is an increasing need for more fonnalized human resource management practices. The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent managers of florist crop production finns used formalized human resource management practices in their businesses. Managers of 104 florist crop production firms in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan participated in a telephone survey designed to gather information on specific personnel management practices. The study revealed that while some finns are using fonnalized personnel management practices, the majority are not. | The habitus and genitalia are illustrated for the twelve species of Pterophoridae known from the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador). The status of one species is discussed, as it may be the unknown female of Postplatyptilia minima spec. nov. Five species are described as new: Postplatyptilia huigraica, P. minima, Platyptilia nigroapicalis, Oidaematophorus cristobalis and O. devriesi. Redescriptions and/or diagnoses are given for the other seven species. Lectotypes are designated for Pterophorus nephogenes Meyrick and Platyptilia brevipennis Zeller. A key based on adult external features is provided. Four species were found to be possibly endemic to the archipelago. New foodplant records are given for two species. |

| Sessenta éguas Puro Sangue de Corrida (PSC) serviram como material para este trabalho. O colostro foi colhido antes do produto mamar e 12 horas após, para se avaliar a cor, a viscosidade, a gravidade específica (GE) e a concentração de imunoglobulinas (Ig) colostrais. Avaliou-se a correlação desses dados com a concentração de Ig sérica dos potrinhos das 3 horas até 7 dias após a primeira mamada. A lactação prematura (LP) influenciou negativamente a concentração de Ig colostral e sérica dos produtos, estando o seu nível sérico de Ig diretamente ligado à quantidade e qualidade de colostro ingerido. | Data from twenty consecutive cruises, carried out over a period of five years, were investigated in order to reveal temporal changes in the characteristics of the AW (Atlantic Waters) and the LIW (Levantine Intermediate Waters) in the Southeastern Levantine basin. The results indicated a seasonal trend in the AW, which appear to be poorly defined during winter and spring but which, as the year progresses and as the LSW (Levantine Surface Waters) form and penetrate downward, become better defined, and occupy a narrower layer whose depth increases. | Un estudio cuantitativo del cangrejo rojo Geryon quinquedens (Smith, 1879) fue realizado en la Zona Común de Pesca Argentino-Uruguaya en primavera de 1985 y verano de 1986, entre las latitudes 35º00´S y 36º40´S y en un rango de profundidad comprendido entre 300 y 900 m. Como arte de captura fue empleada una nasa de tipo troncofónica. El área fue relevada en base a un muestreo sistemático, con estaciones ubicadas cada 20 millas y a razón de una cada 100 m de profundidad. | Na região Amazônica, pouco se conhece sobre a fauna de Coleópteros do solo. Efetuou-se o presente trabalho para conhecer sua abundância e distribuição vertical no solo de terra firme, com cobertura florística de capoeira. O estudo compreendeu 13 coletas mensais de amostras de solo na reserva Tarumã-Mírim, 20 km ao norte de Manaus. As 156 amostras, provenientes de uma área de 1.320 m2, media 21 cm de diâmetro por 7 cm de profundidade, e foram divididas em sub-amostras de 0-3,5 cm e 3,5 - 7 cm; para extrair os coleópteros em laboratório usou-se o método de Kempson modificado.
